The Rehabilitation Centre of People with Physical Disabilities (MEREK), Hungary

The Rehabilitation Centre of People with Physical Disabilities (in Hungarian Mozgássérült Emberek Rehabilitációs Központja, MEREK) is a national rehabilitation organisation operated by the Hungarian Ministry of National Resources.

MEREK’s mission is to promote the integration of people with physical disabilities through the provision of complex rehabilitation services.

During the rehabilitation process the client’s individual demands and needs are assessed in a complex manner and the resulting rehabilitation programme is carried out based on close cooperation between the client and the professionals. MEREK also offers temporary housing in order to improve the physical condition of clients, develop abilities for independent living and to promote inclusion in the labour market

MEREK started a national project called Guruló in September 2008. The project aims at the social and labour market inclusion of people with physical disabilities through the establishment of a national network of seven regional workshops for developing and servicing assistive tools and special sports equipment.

For additional information about MEREK and its services, consult www.merek.hu or download the MEREK leaflet (in English).
