The CEN Workshop 51 – Common Quality Framework for Social Services is the initial stage of the Prometheus project. The kick-off meeting took place on 9 February 2009 at the EPR secretariat in Brussels, Belgium.

All participants made presentations on the role of their organisation and their social services stating their reasons for participating in the project.

Ms Concetta Cultrera, representative of the European Commission (DGEMPL), presented an overview on the PROGRESS programme and the general objectives of “Promoting Quality of Social Services of General Interest”. She explained the policy context and main goals of the programme which is part of a long term strategy of the EC to support member states in different social sectors.

Guus van Beek presented an overview of project aims and objectives, partner roles and work packages. He mentioned the CEN Workshop as a platform for the members of the project to interact with other stakeholders and as a means to define the core principles for certification of quality in social services.

The partners play an important role in all actions, from consulting through CEN Workshop to concrete implementation at pilot sites. The pilot sites will be conducted in Portugal (disability services), Denmark (long-term care to elderly), Romania (services to homeless people) and Greece (child care).
