The aim of this study visit was to focus on the services of the host organisation, and for other participants to share their experiences, exchanging good practices and challenges.
The discussions was framed in the context of the European Pillar of Social Rights, the main EU overarching initiative in the social field, which aims to support fair and well-functioning labour markets and social protection systems. The Disability Rights Strategy is one of the initiatives of the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan which lays out actions to achieve the Pillar’s principles.
Participants discussed what support is needed from funders and policy makers to ensure their services in this area make as much impact as possible.
This study visit focused on supporting people with intellectual disabilities in the mainstream labour market.
Aura’s Employment support programme:
1. Previous training and personal autonomy:
Participants follow an individualized training program that helps to improve personal autonomy, build social skills, learn to commute independently, understand better the program and attitude towards work .
2. Supported Employment:
All participants who start an internship in a company are accompanied by a professional Aura Foundation assistant (real-life situation training ) . The job coach assists the participant throughout all the practices which last from 2 to 4 months. After this learning period, once the candidate is well acquainted with the job and shows the right attitude, the company shall hire the individual under the established contractual legal conditions.
3. Work and personal monitoring:
This is an individualized personal care, counseling and on-going assessment of the company in order to ensure the continuity and promotion in the workplace. It is carried out by the means of individualized interviews both, to the participant and to the company, which shall be registered in a monitoring protocol.
