Study Visit EPSR Action Plan: Independent living, LADAPT, Paris/Chinon

The aim of this study visit was to focus on the services of the host organisation, and for other participants to share their experiences, exchanging good practices and challenges.

The discussions was framed in the context of the European Pillar of Social Rights, the main EU overarching initiative in the social field, which aims to support fair and well-functioning labour markets and social protection systems. The Disability Rights Strategy is one of the initiatives of the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan which lays out actions to achieve the Pillar’s principles.
Participants discussed what support is needed from funders and policy makers to ensure their services in this area make as much impact as possible.

This study visit focused on services and programs supporting people with disabilities’ independent living. LADAPT program PéVA® was one of the features of the study visit which will be organised within the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities which LADAPT participates in at national and regional level in France.

LADAPT program PéVA® (Pédagogie de la Vie Autonome®) – Pedagogy of an autonomous life

PéVA® is an innovative educational method in 3 stages intended for people with severe disabilities to be able to livean independent life “at home” based on teaching skills to support independent living. Over a period of 25 years, this program has supported around 160 people with disabilities to live the life they choose independently and be part of the society.

A sociological study of this program in 2020 concluded that PéVA is a transformation of the way of existing in society that leads to active inclusion. PéVA® introduces the concept of “identity conversion” and generates self-transformation.
