A special and historic moment for Heliomare

Heliomare’s long-cherished wish comes true: a building in which children and young people receive all the necessary support in the fields of education, child and youth rehabilitation and movement and sport.

Heliomare new building in Heerhugowaard, the Netherlands

In January 2023 Heliomare will open their new building in Heerhugowaard. It is a multifunctional center tailored to the needs of children and young people with a limitation.

The plot of the Education and Expertise Center De Vaandel is over 1 hectare in size. The building has a normative size of 7,117 m2 GFA. A surface area of ​​4,743 m2 GFA for the Heliomare Education Foundation (for the educational domain, for Heliomare Rehabilitation, for one gym and for the therapy bath and water familiarization bath). This is an energy neutral school building. To achieve this, the building is equipped with geothermal energy, with 60 wells of 150 meters depth being installed on the plot. More than 18 km of pipes ! In order to be able to generate sufficient energy for the heat pump, air treatment and lighting, 757 PV panels of 395 Wp each have been installed on the roof. The building has no gas connection. Has its own transformer station, which is owned by the lessor, with a maximum capacity of 630A.

Construction is still on ‘schedule’, which means that users will be able to move into the building in 2023. After completion of the construction, 400 students will take place in the education and care building. The De Vaandel-Zuid expertise center is specially tailored to children with multiple disabilities and special learning problems.
