The Casa de Saúde S. José (CSSJ) is one of the Care Centers of the Instituto S. João de Deus, belonging to the Portuguese Province of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God. With a mission centered on comprehensive patient care, it provides specialized services in Mental Health (Psychiatry and Psychosocial Rehabilitation) and Integrated Continuous Care (Medium-Term and Rehabilitation; Long-Term and Maintenance).
Its units are located in privileged environments, combining the tranquility of the rural landscape with high-quality healthcare services: Areias de Vilar Unit – Barcelos located about one kilometer from the Barcelos-Braga National Road, this unit, inaugurated in 1957, benefits from a rural setting where nature, tradition, and culture come together, providing an ideal environment for Mental Health care. Gelfa Health Unit – Caminha: Built in 2013, it is located in Âncora, Caminha, in an area of unique natural beauty, creating an ideal setting for recovery and rehabilitation in the field of Continuous Care. Melgaço Health Unit: Opened in 2016, it reinforces the institution’s presence in the Viana do Castelo district, consolidating its mission of providing continuous care and social support.
The Casa de Saúde S. José is a reference institution in health promotion and well-being, combining nearly seven decades of experience with the best clinical practices. The institution stands out for its commitment to human dignity, social inclusion, and healthcare innovation, ensuring a holistic and patient-centered approach. Its intervention model is based on a multidisciplinary approach, integrating: Doctors, nursing teams, psychology, and social services; physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social education and sociocultural activities; Psychosocial Rehabilitation Service and Pastoral Health and Animation Team.

A Casa de Saúde S. José (CSSJ) é um dos Centros Assistenciais do Instituto S. João de Deus, pertencente à Província Portuguesa da Ordem Hospitaleira de S. João de Deus. Com uma missão centrada na atenção integral ao utente, presta cuidados especializados nas áreas de Saúde Mental (Psiquiatria e Reabilitação Psicossocial) e Cuidados Continuados Integrados (Média Duração e Reabilitação; Longa Duração e Manutenção).

Unidade de Areias de Vilar – Barcelos: Situada a cerca de um quilómetro da Estrada Nacional Barcelos-Braga, esta unidade, inaugurada em 1957, beneficia de um ambiente rural onde a natureza, a tradição e a cultura se encontram, proporcionando um contexto ideal para os cuidados de Saúde Mental. Unidade de Saúde da Gelfa – Caminha: Edificada em 2013, localiza-se em Âncora, Caminha, numa zona de beleza natural única, ideal para um ambiente de recuperação e reabilitação na área dos Cuidados Continuados. Unidade de Saúde de Melgaço: Inaugurada em 2016, reforça a presença da instituição no distrito de Viana do Castelo, consolidando a sua missão na prestação de cuidados continuados e apoio social.
