The newly appointed head of the European Parliamentary Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL), Li Andersson (Finland/The Left), has shared her views on priorities and challenges for the coming two and a half years in an interview with Euronews in August 2024. On employment, social dialogue remains a core undertaking, as well as making the twin transitions fair. It is important to note that she brought up the need to better regulate psychosocial stress which is rising in many female-dominated sectors of the labour market, such as health, social care, and also education, to be tackled through a gender equality perspective. It will not be easy to bring together the different political groups especially in light of the rise of the far right’s influence, yet Li Anderson remained hopeful that a fruitful spirit of cooperation will arise on common pressing social issues, such as the rising cost of living.
