Health Inequalities and Recovery Initiatives under scrutiny in OECD’s Report

Europe is facing multiple challenges, including the aftermath of the pandemic, climate crisis, global conflict, demographic change, and technological revolution. The OECD’s Health at a Glance 2022 report found higher health and wealth inequalities in Greece, Finland, Latvia and Ireland. The Recovery and Resilience Facility aims to address these crises, promote well-being and equality, and facilitate a green and digital transition through investments and reforms. However, implementing system reforms takes time, and the sustainability of these initiatives depends on governments prioritising health and well-being as essential components of economic development. Although this, the exclusion of Ministries of Health from the discussion over the European Semester 2023 cycle raises concerns about the inclusion of health and well-being topics in the EU agenda.
