SIVA (Latvia) Opens New Competence Development Centre

The Social Integration State Agency (SIVA) in Latvia has opened a new Competence Development Centre at SIVA College, established within the Recovery and Resilience Facility project “RAITI: Rehabilitation. Support. Inclusion. Further Education” (Investment 3.1.2.4.i).

The Centre brings together education, professional rehabilitation and practical skills development in a modern, technology-supported and accessible learning environment. Its facilities include a demonstration apartment, where participants can explore assistive technologies and practical solutions supporting independence in everyday life. A dedicated sensory room provides an environment designed to reduce anxiety and support cognitive, sensory and motor development. The Centre also includes modern functional assessment and rehabilitation equipment, including D-Wall technology, supporting interactive assessment and training of physical abilities.

Alongside its technological infrastructure, the Centre develops and delivers competence development programmes for informal caregivers of people with functional impairments, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Training covers areas such as communication, caregiver self-care, health and care, rights and responsibilities, everyday living, environmental adaptation and ergonomics, with additional content tailored to different types of functional impairments. The Centre also strengthens the professional competences of SIVA specialists and supports the development of new approaches and methodologies in rehabilitation and education. By combining professional expertise, accessible environments and modern technologies, the Centre creates opportunities to test, learn and apply solutions in practice. Its development represents an important step towards strengthening SIVA’s role as a centre of expertise in vocational rehabilitation, inclusive education and competence development in Latvia.
