On March 19, the global community marks Social Prescribing Day, celebrating a holistic, person-centred approach to health that connects individuals with non-medical community resources to enhance their well-being. Social Prescribing and Civic Engagement (SPACE) project partners used the opportunity to officially launch the project website, a comprehensive resource centre that will feature:
– Expertise and practices from countries that are leaders in social prescribing and volunteering;
– Training modules for healthcare, social care and rehabilitation professionals working in the field;
– Volunteering opportunities;
– Personal experiences;
…and more.
The SPACE project brings together the expertise of 8 organisations from throughout Europe, and merges the benefits of social prescribing with those of volunteering to create a supportive environment for people with health and rehabilitation needs.
What’s different about SPACE?
The project puts a special focus on cancer care. For cancer survivors, social prescribing can be especially helpful, as it can support and improve their mental health and the need for a sense of purpose after treatment.
