In June 2025, a unique training session took place at Theotokos Foundation in Athens, bringing together persons with neurodevelopmental disabilities and experts from the Cyber Crime Division of the Hellenic Police.
A group of service users from Theotokos participated in an interactive workshop led directly by cybercrime professionals, who introduced the most common online dangers, such as cyberbullying, grooming, fraud, and misuse of personal data, and explained in accessible language how to respond safely. The training was part of the project “The Other Side of Technology”, a pioneering initiative developed by Theotokos Foundation in collaboration with the Greek Police, which includes the creation of three handbooks for service users, parents, and professionals.
Participants engaged actively, asking questions, sharing experiences, and practicing safe responses to online risks. Families and staff reported that service users felt more confident and better prepared to navigate digital spaces.
This innovative cooperation marks the first partnership of its kind in Greece between a disability organisation and a national law enforcement authority, and it represents an important step towards inclusive digital safety and Independent Living.
