The European Commission Gathers Feedback on the Apply AI Strategy – Social Services Europe Takes Part in the Consultation
On 4 June, Social Services Europe, an umbrella organisation formed by European organisations providing social services, to which EPR is a member, shared its response to the Apply AI Strategy consultation launched by the European Commission.
The strategy has the following objectives:
- Fostering the integration of AI technologies in the EU’s leading strategic industrial sectors;
- Unlocking the potential of innovation and enabling EU companies to be global AI front runners;
- Fostering the integration of AI solutions in the public sector to substantially improve the quality of services provided to the public.
In its input to the call for evidence, SSE called for:
- The co-development of inclusive AI solutions, engaging diverse stakeholders from the beginning, including service users, to co-design tools tailored to their needs.
- The investment on digital literacy and skills training.
- Implementing a strong regulatory oversight considering the European AI Act. The EU should enforce principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness, building mechanisms for correcting misinformation and maintaining a human oversight layer.
- Foster collaborative approaches among policymakers, technologists, researchers and service providers to innovate responsibly.
- Focus on ethical AI deployment.
This input will feed into the EC’s upcoming Apply AI Strategy, its publication being expected by the third quarter of 2025.
