The European Commission publishes its Work Programme 2025

On 12 February, the European Commission published its Work Program 2025, outlining key strategies, action plans and legislative proposals for the year.

EPR welcomes many of the planned initiatives:

  • New Action Plan for the Pillar of Social Rights: strengthening social protections for all;
  • “Union of Skills” Initiative: addressing labour shortages through high-quality, inclusive education and lifelong learning;
  • Quality Jobs Roadmap: strengthening workers’ rights, health and safety, and collective bargaining;
  • Enhanced Anti-Discrimination Strategies: progress on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030, including accessibility and inclusive hiring;
  • Support for Civil Society: empowering key actors of democracy.

However, we express strong concern for the planned withdraw of the Equal Treatment Directive. This was presented in an annex to the Commission’s 2025 work plan with the justification that it has been blocked by national governments for 17 years.
