At the beginning of September the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities published a General Comment on Article 27 of the Convention. Article 27 provides the principles and standards of the right of persons with disabilities to work and employment. The General Comment provides a comprehensive overview of the obligations of States parties under this article. It mentions the barriers that men and women with a disability often face in the labour market, such as higher unemployment rates, lower wages, lower standards in hiring conditions, lack of training opportunities and accessibility of the work environment and lack of career progression. It also takes into consideration the challenges and opportunities that emerge in the labour market from the green transition and digital transformation.
EPR contributed to the call for submissions to the Draft of the General Comment in December 2021.
