EC & Council Joint Employment Report highlights ongoing challenges persons with disabilities face in the labour market
On 10 March 2025, the European Commission (EC) and Council of the EU published a Joint Employment Report, providing an overview of key employment and social developments in the EU and Member States.
In the area of the employment of persons with disabilities, the report highlights the following:
- Disability and illness are important reasons to remain outside the labour force alongside care responsibilities, workplace-related factors and institutional barriers.
- Although early school leaving decreased slightly in the EU between 2022 and 2023, young people born outside the EU, young Roma and young persons with disabilities are more likely to leave education and training early.
- Even if the share of people at risk of poverty of social exclusion slightly declined in the EU in 2023, the heterogeneity between Member States and disparities between population groups remained large, with higher poverty risks for children, older people, and persons with disabilities.
