Equal Treatment Project has launched the training courses “Understanding Intellectual Disabilities”

We are pleased to share that Equal Treatment project partners have completed and launched the first of three, innovative online training courses for healthcare staff entitled “Understanding Intellectual Disabilities”. The content and context of this first module was pulled together from research findings, literature reviews (legal and policy frameworks at EU and national levels) and surveys with healthcare and support professionals and with people with intellectual disabilities from Greece, Lithuania, Spain, Finland and at European level. A big part of the training course included ‘stories’ from the experts with lived experiences – the people with intellectual disabilities themselves, explaining their experiences and challenges of living with intellectual disabilities.

Work is underway to collect the content for the second online learning course: “Good communication and shared decision making: Establishing Good communication with People with Intellectual Disability and basic principles of Supported Decision Making”. When each e-learning module is completed, they are uploaded on to a training platform, Moodle.

On the project management side, work has started on gathering information and data for the interim report to the Agency for uploading on to their reporting system (Sygma). A risks log has been created and populated for assessing and managing the issues and risks for the project and a new LinkedIn page has been developed to increase the promotion and dissemination of the project’s work and its’ deliverables.
