European Union Member States and EU institutions address the state of play of European Child Guarantee and steps towards implementation

During a meeting at the European Parliament that took place at the end of June, members of EU countries governments and Child Guarantee Coordinators addressed the need to accelerate the fight against child poverty. The European Commission emphasised the importance of investing in children for the functioning of our societies.

At the meeting, representatives discussed the submission of the Child Guarantee (Council Recommendation aiming to prevent and combat social exclusion by guaranteeing effective access of children in need to a set of key services such as free early childhood education and care; free education (including school-based activities and at least one healthy meal each school day); free healthcare; healthy nutrition, and adequate housing) national action plans and their swift implementation and supported by EU funding.
