Supporting community participation and social inclusion of Ageing People with Intellectual Disabilities
Taking part in community activities is crucial to everyone’s wellbeing. However, it is a recognized fact that it is very difficult, if not impossible, for ageing people with intellectual disabilities to fully access and enjoy these community activities.
In this context, the Particip.AGE project was launched this January, to research the challenges on the ground and to develop policy recommendations for increased and improved community and social inclusion of ageing people with intellectual disabilities.
As a group, ageing people with intellectual disabilities are doubly vulnerable due to their early ageing and intellectual disability. In recognition that these service users have unique and differing characteristics that must be handled with due care and diligence, the Particip.AGE project will develop training for staff to ensure improved understanding of their changing needs but also of the impact of the digital transition (including Assistive Technology) on services and on the relationship of ageing people with disabilities with their community (the territorial one as well as the digital one).
More updates will be shared on the research findings once they are completed.
