Strengthening social dialogue: a priority for the Spanish Council Presidency

The Council Presidency, which rotates every semester between all the Member States of the European Union, has now landed and will stay until the end of this year in Spain hands. On the 13th and 14th of July, the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO), (informally) met the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU. The meeting focused on collective agreements, care policies, and social investments. The meeting had various working sessions focusing on strengthening social dialogue in Europe, developing a person-centred long-term care system at both European and national levels (as per the European Care Strategy) and identifying social investments necessary for realising the European Pillar of Social Rights. The meeting also explored ways to ensure more equal conditions and income protections for the self-employed. EPR will follow closely the work delivered by the Presidency on rights of persons with disabilities, social economy, mental health and the European Care Strategy.
