The European Day of Persons with Disabilities 2023 took place in Brussels

The 2023 edition of the European Day of Persons with Disabilities conference organised by the European Commission took place in Brussels on 30 November and 1 December 2023. This two-day event brings together more than 400 policy-makers, high-level experts and disability advocates. The participation of persons with disabilities allows direct communication between policy makers, service providers and users and establishes a dialogue with public authorities and other stakeholders. Patrick Ruppol – the Chairman of EPR was invited to speak at the Panel on Skills and employment of persons with disabilities along with Monika Chaba, Disability Policy Officer at Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission.

The main points on agenda were: 

  • the right of persons with disabilities to vote and to stand for elections 
  • possible prospects for persons with disabilities to improve their skills (as a part of European Year of Skills programme)
  • 3 years since the European Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities (2021-2030) was presented: current achievements and further developments

The conference included  the Access City Award ceremony. This year the prize was presented to the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna in Spain for its comprehensive approach to accessibility and its dedication to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities. The award was granted by European Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli.
